Clear aligners have become one of the most popular ways to straighten teeth. At Comfort Dental Riverwood we offer both Invisalign and Angel Aligner, as well as braces. This guide explains how clear aligners work, how the two systems compare, and what to consider before you start.

How do clear aligners work?

We take digital scans of your teeth and plan each stage of movement on a computer. A series of thin, removable plastic trays is made from that plan. Each set gently moves your teeth a small amount, and you change to the next set every week or two.

How many hours a day do you wear them?

Around 20 to 22 hours a day. You take them out to eat, to drink anything other than plain water, and to clean your teeth.

Invisalign and Angel Aligner compared

Both are clear aligner systems built on digital treatment planning and custom-made trays. They differ in their materials, planning software, attachment design and cost. Rather than one being better overall, one may suit your case better than the other.

  • Treatment planning: both use 3D digital scans to plan movement in stages.

  • Appearance: both are clear and discreet.

  • Wear time: the same 20 to 22 hours a day applies to both.

  • Attachments: small tooth-coloured bumps may be bonded to some teeth to help the aligners grip.

  • Cost: varies with complexity; we'll give you a written estimate after your assessment.

Who are clear aligners suitable for?

Aligners often suit adults and teenagers with crowding, gaps, or some bite issues. They're less suitable for some complex movements, where braces may be more predictable. Your teeth and gums need to be healthy before you start, so we'll treat any decay or gum disease first.

What to expect during treatment

  • Regular check-ins, usually every six to ten weeks, to monitor progress

  • Some pressure or tenderness for a day or two with each new set

  • Cleaning your aligners daily and brushing before putting them back in

  • Small refinements near the end of treatment, if needed

What are the risks?

Results depend on wearing the aligners as directed. Teeth can feel tender, and some people notice a slight lisp for the first few days. Poor cleaning during treatment can lead to decay or gum inflammation. Teeth can move back after treatment if retainers aren't worn.

After treatment: retainers

Retainers keep your teeth in their new position. You may wear a clear removable retainer at night, have a thin fixed wire bonded behind your teeth, or both.

Summary

Invisalign and Angel Aligner are both effective clear aligner systems when used as directed. The best choice depends on your teeth, your goals and your budget. A consultation is the best way to find out.
